If you’ve recently come across paint stains on your shorts, don’t worry – there are plenty of effective ways to clean them up. Before beginning, be sure to check the care instructions label that came attached to your shorts – it’s important to follow recommended cleaning instructions to ensure that your shorts are not damaged.

Removing Fresh Paint Stains

The first step for removing fresh paint stains is to gently scrape away any excess paint with a plastic knife or other blunt object. Do not rub or press down too hard since this may spread the paint rather than remove it! Next, you’ll need to mix together a solution of cold water and liquid laundry detergent. Submerge the stained area and let it sit for about 15 minutes.

Once it has soaked, rinse the area with cold water and then dab it with a clean towel. You may need to repeat this process several times until the stain is completely gone. Make sure to always blot the fabric with a clean towel after rinsing.

Removing Set-In Paint Stains

For set-in paint stains, start by mixing equal parts of liquid laundry detergent and white vinegar with one part water. Soak a sponge in the mixture and then gently rub it into stained area. Let the mixture sit for 15 minutes before rinsing it off with cold water.

Alternatively, you can also try using rubbing alcohol or nail polish remover. Simply apply it to the stained area and scrub gently with a toothbrush. Once paint is removed, be sure to rinse off the area with cold water and pat it dry.

Preventative Measures

When possible, it’s best to avoid getting paint on your shorts in first place. Wear an apron, long-sleeve shirt, or coveralls when painting to protect yourself and your clothing. Make sure to wash your shorts after painting and when working with paint in general.
