When you’re trying to clean paint stains from your raincoat, it is important to identify what type of paint you are dealing with: oil-based or acrylic paints. Oil-based paints are more durable and require special approaches for cleaning. Here are some tips and tricks to help you get rid of those tough paint stains regardless of the type:

  1. If the paint stain is fresh, use a wet cloth to dab area.
  2. Apply a small amount of rubbing alcohol and wipe it away with a dry cloth.
  3. If the stain persists, mix a small amount of detergent and warm water and apply with a soft brush.
  4. Rinse off the soap with cold water.
  5. If dish soap is not available, try using a mild laundry detergent or white vinegar.
  6. For oil-based paints, scrub the area with a wool pad soaked in turpentine.

It is best practice to test any cleaning product on an inconspicuous area of the raincoat first before using it. Detergents and other chemicals may damage fabrics if used incorrectly so always read and adhere to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Prevention is better than cure. To prevent paint stains from appearing on your raincoat, make sure to wear protective gloves when painting or handling wet paint. Also, remember to keep your raincoat away from any wet paint or any other areas where it may come into contact with wet paint.
