Step 1: Spot Treat Stain

Start by using a cloth and spot treating the paint stain with a mild detergent. Rub area with the detergent in a circular motion until it begins to lighten. Do not use too much pressure — just enough to help lift the stain from the fabric.

Step 2: Wash Raincoat

Once the spot treatment is complete, it’s time to move on to washing the raincoat. Make sure to read the care label first, and then wash the item with a mild detergent in cold water. If the stain is still present after washing, you may want to try a second wash cycle.

Step 3: Apply a Laundry Pre-treatment

If the stain has not come out, apply a laundry pre-treatment product to the stained area and let it sit for 10 minutes before washing again. Follow the instructions on the package for best results.

Step 4: Rinse and Dry the Raincoat

After washing and treating, rinse the garment thoroughly with cold water, and then dry it according to the care label's instructions. Air drying is usually the preferred method.

Step 5: Repeat the Process If Necessary

If the stain has not completely lifted after the first attempt, you may need to repeat the entire process. Be sure to check your garment for any remaining stains before wearing it, and never put it in the dryer if the stain is still present.
