The quicker you handle a paint stain, the better your chances of success in removing it. Try to tackle the stain as soon as you spot it. Blot the area around the spot with a tissue or cloth to absorb any excess, taking care not to spread the paint further. Gently scrape away any fresh paint before moving onto the next step.
If you have dish soap at hand, mix a teaspoon of it with cold water. Dip a white cloth into the mixture and use it to blot the stain. If you don’t have access to dish soap, try a few drops of laundry detergent instead.
Fill your sink with cold water and add a tablespoon of washing up liquid. Carefully move your poplin fabric through the soapy water and allow it to soak for up to 15 minutes. Rinse off the fabric, and if the stain is still visible, then repeat this process.
You may wish to try a proprietary stain remover after/instead of the steps above. Check the label of the product for specific instructions, then apply the cleaner directly to stain. Agitate gently with a soft brush, and let the product work its magic for up to one minute before rinsing off.
Finally, launder your poplin fabric as normal. Once it’s done, inspect the fabric to make sure the paint stain has gone. If not, give it another round of laundering before considering alternative solutions.
