If the paint stain is still wet, you'll have the best luck of removal. The first step is to carefully dab the area with a dry cloth and then use a brush to loosen any stubborn paint residue.
If the paint is oil-based, saturate the stain with rubbing alcohol. For water-based paints, use white vinegar. Allow the stain to sit for 10-15 minutes, blotting it again with a dry cloth. The next step is to rinse the overalls in cold water. If the stain is still there, lightly rub a mild detergent into fabric, rinse, and repeat.
If your overalls have been left to dry with a paint stain, don't worry - you can still get the stain out! Begin by brushing off as much dried paint as possible. Then mix one-part liquid dish soap with two-parts hydrogen peroxide. Apply this solution directly to the stain and allow it to sit for around 10 minutes. Follow up with a cold-water rinse and hand-washing the overalls for good measure.
Don't forget to check the underside of the overalls as well. The paint stain might have gone through, so the same cleaning procedures can be utilized on both sides of the fabric.
The easiest way to prevent paint stains in future is to wear protective clothing such as aprons and gloves while painting. Coveralls are designed to protect your clothing from paint spills and splatters. If you do end up with a paint stain on your overalls, be sure to act quickly and follow the steps outlined above for maximum stain removal.
