Instructions

  1. First, assess the size, type, and age of the paint stain on your Nautica item.
  2. Next, test the paint removal method . Select a discreet portion of the fabric and apply chosen cleaning method. Let the solution sit for 30 minutes and check to make sure it has not changed the color or texture of the fabric.
  3. If the test passes, then apply cleaner on the entire paint stain.
  4. Gently scrub the stain in circular motions with a soft brush or sponge. Do not apply too much pressure - you don't want to damage the fabric.
  5. Once the stain is completely gone, rinse the cleaned area with warm water.
  6. Afterwards, use a clean cloth to absorb excess moisture from the fabric.
  7. Finally, let the fabric air dry.

Cleaning Methods for Nautica Fabric Paint Stains

  • Dish soap/water: This is an effective stain cleaner for non-oil based paints on Nautica fabrics. Create an equal solution of dish soap and warm water, dip a sponge into mixture, and gently scrub stain.
  • Vinegar: This is great for oil-based stains. Mix a tablespoon of white vinegar with a cup of warm water. Soak a cloth in the solution and press it on the stain for 15 minutes. Gently agitate the stain with your fingers before rinsing with cold water.
  • Ammonia: Mix one part ammonia with four parts warm water. Dip a sponge into mixture, and gently scrub the paint stain in a circular motion. Rinse fabric with cold water afterwards.
  • Glycerin soap: This is a classic for dealing with stubborn paint stains. Dissolve one teaspoon of glycerin soap in a cup of warm water. Dip a soft brush into the solution and scrub the paint stain lightly. Rinse with cold water after.

Additional Tips

  • Pre-treat: For fresh paint stains, use a combination of dish soap and baking soda as a pre-treatment. Gently rub the mixture into affected area and rinse it.
  • Tumble dry: Once the paint stain is gone, tumble dry the fabric on low heat for 10 minutes to make sure all of the cleaner residue is removed.
  • Launder: After air drying, launder the fabric with other similarly colored items in cold water.
