Before starting the stain removal process, you need to get the fabric ready. Take the stained muslin outside and shake it thoroughly to remove as much of excess paint as possible. Once complete, lay the fabric on a flat surface like a table.
Start by wetting the affected area of the fabric with cold water. Use just enough to dampen the area and be careful not to soak the whole fabric. Then, take some laundry detergent and mix it into the water to make a paste. Apply the paste onto the stain and let it sit for around 15 minutes. The paste will help to loosen the paint and make it easier to remove.
After 15 minutes, use a scrub brush to scrape away as much paint as possible. Keep scrubbing until no more paint comes off onto the brush. This may take several minutes, but it’s important to keep going so the stain is completely removed.
Once the stain has been lifted, rinse the fabric with cold water and then examine the affected area. If the stain is still there, repeat the process until it’s gone. When the stain has finally disappeared, turn the fabric over and use the same process on the other side.
When you’re finished, hang the muslin up to dry in the shade. Once it’s completely dry, iron the fabric to help set any remaining stains. This will also give the fabric a fresh, new look.
Removing paint stains from muslin can be tricky, but it is possible. With the right technique and a little bit of patience, you can get your muslin looking as good as new. Just remember to rinse the fabric thoroughly, dry it in the shade, and iron the fabric once it’s completely dry.
