If you’ve recently spilled paint on mesh fabric, you know how difficult it can be to remove the stains. Since mesh is a delicate material, traditional cleaning methods such as scrubbing or using harsh chemicals can actually make the problem worse and cause further damage to the fabric. The good news is that there are simple ways to effectively clean paint out of mesh, without compromising its quality in the process.

Method 1: Sponge & Warm Water Method

If you have paint on mesh that’s still wet, this method is the quickest and safest way to remove the stain. Start by taking a damp sponge and gently dab the stained area, being careful not to spread the paint any further. Next, take a bowl of warm water and dab the stained area with the damp sponge a second time. This will help to loosen the paint from fabric.

Once the paint has been loosened, you can finish the job by gently scrubbing the area with a soft-bristled brush. Be sure to use light pressure and move the brush in small circles to ensure the fabric is not damaged in process. Once the paint has been completely removed, rinse the area with cool water and allow the fabric to air dry.

Method 2: Acetone Method

If the paint is already dry, you may need to use a solvent in order to remove the stain. Acetone is a strong solvent that can easily break down paint and other types of stains. However, it’s important to note that acetone can also damage the fabric, so it’s important to proceed with caution. To use this method, start by filling a spray bottle with acetone and spraying the stained area until it’s saturated. Next, use a soft-bristled brush to gently scrub the paint away. Once the paint has been removed, rinse the area thoroughly with cool water and allow the fabric to air dry.

Method 3: Rubbing Alcohol Method

If acetone isn’t an option, you can also use rubbing alcohol to remove paint from mesh fabric. Start by taking a small bowl and mixing equal parts rubbing alcohol and warm water. Next, take a clean cloth and dip it into the mixture. Gently blot stained area with the cloth to dislodge the paint, then use a soft-bristled brush to finish the job. Once paint has been removed, rinse area with cool water and allow the fabric to air dry.

Tips for Removing Paint from Mesh

  • Always test any cleaning method on a small inconspicuous part of fabric first to make sure there is no discoloration or damage.
  • It’s best to treat paint stains as soon as possible to avoid having to use more aggressive cleaning methods.
  • If paint stain is still visible after cleaning, repeat the process until the stain is completely gone.
