Merino wool is known for being a soft, natural material that keeps you warm and looks great. However, paint stains can quickly ruin its appearance. When paints and dyes are spilled onto any type of fabric, it can be difficult to remove them. Fortunately, with the right supplies and techniques, you can get your merino wool garment looking like new again.

What You Need

  • Laundry detergent
  • White vinegar
  • A sponge
  • Paper towels

Steps

  1. First, check the garment’s tag to see what type of fabric it is made from. Merino wool can be delicate, so it is important to check the tag before proceeding with any cleaning steps.
  2. Make a mixture of two tablespoons of laundry detergent and one cup of white vinegar in a bowl. Soak the stained area in this mixture for 30 minutes.
  3. Rinse the stained area with cold water. Gently rub a sponge over the stain to remove any residue.
  4. Pat the area dry with paper towels and let it air-dry.
  5. Once the garment is completely dry, inspect the area. If the stain is still not gone, repeat the steps above until it is removed.

Tips

  • If stain persists after trying the above steps, take your garment to a professional dry cleaner.
  • Be sure to use only cold water when washing merino wool as hot water can cause the fabric to shrink.
  • Always use gentle, non-abrasive cleaners or detergents when trying to remove a stain from merino wool.
