Before you can start cleaning, gather some supplies. You will need paint thinner, lint-free cloths, rubber gloves, mineral spirits, a dry brush, and a plastic scraper. You may also need an upholstery cleaner if the stained area is fabric or leather.
It’s always important to test any cleaning method or product in a small spot before taking it on the entire stain. This ensures that cleaner will not damage surface of the furniture. Apply a bit of your chosen cleaning product on an inconspicuous spot on the furniture and wait at least 10 minutes to see how it reacts.
If the test spot goes well, begin scraping away the paint with a plastic scraper. Be sure to work gently so you don't accidentally scratch your furniture. If this doesn't work, move onto the next step.
If scraping wasn't enough, apply a paint solvent such as paint thinner or mineral spirits. Test the spot again to make sure it won't damage furniture. Once it passes the test, apply the thinner with a lint-free cloth. Gently rub at stained area until the paint begins to lift.
If the thinner did not remove the paint, you may need an upholstery cleaner for fabrics or leather. Again, be sure to test in a small area before moving forward. Then, apply the cleaner and use a dry brush to scrub off the remaining paint. Finally, clean the furniture with a cloth slightly dampened with water.
Cleaning paint from furniture does not need to be a challenge. With the right materials and guidance, you can easily get rid of those pesky paint stains for good. Hopefully now you’re equipped with the knowledge to tackle any furniture paint issue.
