Cotton piqué is popular due to its lightweight yet strong composition and often used for making shirts and jackets. However, accidental spillage of paint can leave unsightly stains that are difficult to remove. The good news is, there are several techniques you can use to get rid of paint stains from cotton piqué.

Cleaning Paint Stains from Cotton Piqué

Start by scraping off as much of excess paint as possible with a spoon or butter knife. This will loosen the paint and make it easier to remove. Then, rinse the fabric under cold water. Place material into a bucket and fill it with lukewarm water. If the stain is still visible, apply a mild detergent to the affected area and scrub lightly. Allow the garment to soak in detergent solution for 20 to 30 minutes.

Once garment has soaked, rinse it thoroughly with cold water to remove any remaining detergent residue. After rinsing, allow the garment to air dry. If the stain is still visible after air drying, follow steps below to remove it:

  • Mix one part baking soda, one part liquid dish detergent, and two parts hydrogen peroxide in a bowl. Using a cloth, apply the mixture to the affected area and allow it to sit for 5 to 10 minutes.
  • Rinse clothing with cold water and allow it to air dry.
  • If the stain is still present, repeat the process until it is completely gone.

Once the stain has been removed, wash the clothing with regular laundry detergent according to care label instructions. To prevent future stains, it’s also advisable to add a color-safe bleach to the final laundry cycle.

Preventive Care for Cotton Piqué

To help keep your cotton piqué fabric looking new and free of stains, let’s look at some preventive measures:

  • Before washing, turn the garment inside out to protect the exterior from damage.
  • Wash colored garments separately.
  • Wash in lukewarm water instead of hot water.
  • When dealing with tough stains, use a color-safe bleach.
  • To reduce wrinkling, hang the garment immediately after use.
  • To preserve the fabric’s shape, iron garments inside out.

By following above tips, you can help keep your cotton piqué looking its best for years to come.
