Step 1: Blot the Stain

Start by blotting the stain to remove as much of the paint as possible. Blot the stain with a paper towel or cloth in a pressing and dabbing motion. Avoid rubbing the stain, which can spread it further into the fabric.

Step 2: Apply Detergent

If the stain is still visible after blotting it, then apply a few drops of mild laundry detergent or dishwashing liquid directly onto the stained area. Gently rub the detergent into the fabric in a circular motion. Then rinse stained area with cold water.

Step 3: Use Cleaning Solvent

If the stain remains, then use a dry-cleaning solvent, such as trichloroethylene, on the fabric. Saturate a cotton pad or cloth in the solution and dab stain with it. Then rinse the stained area with cold water and allow to air dry.

Step 4: Launder Fabric

When the stain is gone, launder fabric as normal. For best results, read the care instructions and use a color safe detergent. Also, wash the fabric alone, rather than with other clothing items, to avoid spreading the paint stain to other garments.
