Paint stains on board shorts can be tricky to remove because of the fabric's thin material. Use these tips to make sure you can effectively remove the stains without damaging your shorts.
The first step is to use cold water to soak the stained area of the shorts. Use a piece of paper towel (or a rag) to gently blot stained area. This will help remove some of paint.
Oxygen-based bleach is the best way to tackle stubborn paint stains. Combine one-part oxygen-based bleach with two-parts warm water. Make sure to mix the two together until they are completely blended.
Many board shorts are made of color-fast fabrics, but it still can't hurt to test the mixture on a hidden area of the shorts first. This will ensure that the fabric isn't damaged by the bleach.
Once you have tested the mixture and know it won't damage the fabric, it's time to apply it to the paint stain. Use a soft-bristled brush and rub the bleach mixture into the stained area. Be gentle - you don't want to scrub too hard and cause the fabric to fray.
Allow the bleach mixture to sit for 10 minutes. This will give it time to deeply penetrate stained area and loosen the paint.
After 10 minutes, rinse the stained area with cold water. Don't use hot water, as this could cause the paint to set more deeply into fabric. Continue to blot the area until all of the bleach and paint has been removed.
Now it's time to wash the shorts normally. Put them in the washing machine and choose cold water setting. Add a small amount of detergent. Once the cycle is done, hang shorts up to dry.
With right products and tips, you can quickly and easily get rid of paint stains on board shorts. Follow these steps to make sure you get the job done right the first time!
