If you’ve ever dropped a paint brush while working on a project, you know that it takes some effort to remove the resulting stain from your ballet flats. Take it from the experts—you can effectively clean paint stains from your favourite ballet flats without having to throw them away. Here’s how:

  1. Act fast and blot any excess paint with a clean cloth.
  2. Dab a small amount of rubbing alcohol onto a rag or cotton bud.
  3. Gently rub the area with the rag or cotton bud, taking care not to cause damage.
  4. Repeat this process until the stain has been removed.
  5. Allow the area to completely dry before returning the shoes to storage.

If after following these steps you find that the paint stain is not completely gone, don’t give up yet. Create a paste of mild detergent and baking soda, apply it to the stain, allow it to sit for 15 minutes, then rinse with lukewarm water. You may also try a dab of nail polish remover, but be sure to use only an acetone-based product on leather or synthetic fabrics.

Cleaning paint stains from your favorite ballet flats doesn’t have to be a chore. Following these simple steps will have your shoes looking brand new in no time.
