The first step to removing an oil pastel stain is to identify what type of fabric the stain is on. Fabrics such as polyester, nylon, and rayon will require different cleaning methods than natural fabrics like cotton and wool.
Once you know what type of fabric the stain is on, you’ll want to start by blotting stain with a cloth dampened in dish soap and warm water. Be careful not to rub the stain too hard, or you may end up making it worse.
After blotting stain with the dish soap and water solution, rinse the cloth in cold water and continue to blot stain. This will help to remove some of grease from the oil pastel.
If the stain isn’t coming out with just soap and water, you can try using a spot cleaner specifically designed for removing oil pastel stains. Follow the instructions on the bottle and apply the spot cleaner to the stain.
Once you’ve applied spot cleaner, let it sit according to the instructions on the bottle. This will allow the chemicals in the spot cleaner to break down the oils in oil pastel.
Once you’ve let the spot cleaner sit, blot stain with a cloth soaked in cold water. This will help to remove the spot cleaner and any remaining oil pastel residue.
Now that the stain is gone, you’ll want to wash the uniform according to the care instructions. This will help to ensure that all of the chemicals from the spot cleaner are removed from the fabric.
