Oil pastels contain wax and pigment, which makes them particularly difficult to remove from fabric. That said, with the right approach, it’s possible to clean your Under Armour gear without ruining the material.
Start by creating a cleaning solution with a tablespoon of detergent and a cup of cold water. Use a sponge or soft cloth to dampen the stain with solution. Let the detergent sit on the fabric for 15 or 20 minutes, allowing it to work its way into the fibers.
After pre-treating the stain, use a soft bristle brush to scrub the area in a circular motion. Be gentle as you work, making sure not to apply too much pressure that could damage the garment.
Once you’ve scrubbed the stained area, rinse it out with cold water. You can also use a mild solution of bleach and water if you plan on washing the item after treating the stain.
Next, apply a few drops of a commercial stain remover to the fabric. If you don’t have any at home, you can also mix a teaspoon of liquid laundry detergent and a cup of warm water. Focus on getting affected area saturated with the remover.
Finally, wash the garment in the washer. Set the machine to the coldest setting and use a detergent with a mild bleach. Check fabric before putting the item in the dryer—if the stain is still visible, you may need to repeat steps 3-5 until it’s gone.
With these simple steps, you can easily remove oil pastel stains from Under Armour apparel. For more information on how to care for your wardrobe, visit our tips page.
