Before getting started, take a look at the stain and identify what kind of oil pastel it is. If it’s a colored oil pastel, you’ll need to use different cleaning methods than if it were an oil-based one. Determine if stain is fresh, or if it’s had time to set in. Fresh stains are much easier to remove than those that have been there for a while.
Once you know the type of oil pastel that has stained your umbrella, begin prepping the area. Gather some paper towels, a plastic bag, and a bowl. Place the paper towels over the area and then put the plastic bag over the paper towels. Secure bag to area with the bowl. This will help to keep the paper towels in place and prevent them from moving around.
Now that area is prepped, you can begin to work on removing stain. If the stain is fresh, dab at it with a damp cloth. This should help to lift the stain. For oil-based pastels, use a cotton swab or a rag and dip it into acetone. Then, gently rub the affected area until the stain is gone.
Once all oil pastel is gone, it’s important to clean and sanitize the area. Use a mild soap and warm water to gently scrub area. Then, use an all-purpose cleaner to disinfect area and remove any residue. Make sure to rinse off all the cleaning solutions with cool water.
Once all the cleaning has been done, carefully move the bowl and let the umbrella dry completely before using it again. Make sure the area is completely dry before folding the umbrella back up or using it in any way.
