Steps to Cleaning Oil Pastel Stains from a Tuxedo
- Test an inconspicuous area of the fabric first. Apply a small amount of the stain-removal solution to see if any discoloration or shrinkage occurs in material.
- Dab stained area with a clean, damp cloth to absorb as much of oil pastel as possible.
- Mix one teaspoon of mild detergent into one cup of cool water to create a cleaning solution.
- Using a damp white cloth, gently blot the stain with the cleaning solution, starting at the edges and working your way inward.
- Place several layers of paper towels beneath area you’re cleaning. Blot the stain with a clean, dry cloth to absorb the moisture.
- If the stain persists, moisten a cotton swab with rubbing alcohol and rub it gently on the stained area. This should break down the oil-based stain.
- Once the stain is completely removed, rinse the area thoroughly with cool water and allow it to air-dry.
Tips for Successful Stain Removal
- Be gentle. Rubbing too hard can damage the fabric.
- Avoid hot or warm water and any harsh detergents.
- Never use bleach or other harsh chemicals.
