Oil pastels are a fun, messy way for kids to explore their creativity. However, accidents happen and you may find your child's favorite toy covered in bright oil pastel marks! The good news is that cleaning the stains doesn't have to be difficult. With a few simple household items, you can wipe away those pesky oil pastel blemishes in no time.
First, gather the supplies that you'll need to tackle the oil pastel stains. You'll need a dry washcloth, a soft-bristle toothbrush, laundry detergent, and a bowl of lukewarm water.
As with any cleaning venture, it's important to make sure that your chosen detergent won't damage the toy's material. Using a damp washcloth, dab a small amount of the detergent on an inconspicuous part of toy and wait a few minutes before wiping it off. If there's no discoloration or signs of damage, you can proceed to the next step.
In a bowl of lukewarm water, mix a small amount of detergent until it forms suds. Using the toothbrush, gently scrub the stain in small circular motions. Focus on the area right around the stain, but be careful not to scrub too hard or you could damage the toy. When you're finished, use a damp washcloth to wipe away any excess soap.
Once you've finished scrubbing stain, use a clean dry washcloth to dab away any remaining moisture from the toy. Allow the toy to air dry completely before next step.
Once the toy is completely dry, check for any discoloration caused by detergent. If no color change is apparent, congratulations - you've successfully removed the oil pastel stain and your toy is good as new!
