Step 1: Rinse with Cold Water

The first thing you should do when faced with an oil pastel stain is to rinse it with cold water as soon as possible. This will help prevent the stain from setting. You can either soak the garment in cold water or rinse it under tap. Let the garment soak for 10 minutes before continuing.

Step 2: Use Detergent

Once the garment has soaked for at least 10 minutes, you should apply a small amount of detergent directly to the stained area. Work the detergent into fabric with your fingers until it starts to lather. Next, rinse the garment with cold water again and repeat the process if needed.

Step 3: Pretreat with White Vinegar

If the stain is still present after step two, you can try pretreating it with white vinegar. Simply mix equal parts water and white vinegar and apply it to the stain with a cloth. Allow the mixture to sit for 10 minutes before rinsing with cold water.

Step 4: Try a Commercial Stain Remover

If stain is still not budging, you can try a commercial stain remover. Be sure to follow the instructions on the package. Most stain removers recommend soaking the garment in the solution for 15 minutes or more before washing normally.

Final Thoughts

Removing oil pastel stains from tank tops can be a bit of a challenge, but with a few simple steps you can quickly and easily get rid of them. Remember to always rinse with cold water first, then work up to using a commercial stain remover if needed.
