What You'll Need

  • Dry-cleaning solvent
  • Cotton swab
  • Dish soap
  • Thick cloth

Getting Started

Before you begin, it's important to note that taffeta is a delicate fabric and should be treated with care. Pre-treat the stain by blotting it with a dry-cleaning solvent on a cotton swab. Be sure not to rub fabric as this can cause the stain to spread and set more permanently.

Scrub with Soap and Water

Create a mixture of dish soap and warm water. Dip the thick cloth in the solution and then dab at the stained area. Don't scrub too vigorously as this could damage the fabric. Rinse cloth frequently while using it on the stain and make sure to work from the edges of the stain inward so it doesn't spread. Repeat until stain has been removed or lightened significantly.

Dry Cleaning

If the stain still remains, take the garment to a professional dry cleaner. If possible, make sure to mention the type of stain when bringing in the garment. If the stain is still visible after dry-cleaning, repeat the steps above to try and remove it completely.
