Steps for Removing Oil Pastel Stains on Sweatshirts

  1. Start off by scraping away as much of the oil pastel from stained area as possible.
  2. If the oil pastel has left a greasy residue, sprinkle area with cornstarch or talcum powder and let sit for around 15 minutes.
  3. Gently rub the powder into the stains.
  4. Use a damp cloth to wipe away powder and any excess oil.
  5. If any stains still remain, saturate the area with a pre-wash stain remover. Allow it to sit for approximately 5 minutes before washing.
  6. Wash the sweatshirt on a normal cycle with warm water and your normal detergent.
  7. Check the sweatshirt after washing to see if there are any remaining stains. Repeat the pre-wash process and rewash if needed.

Additional Tips & Tricks

  • If these steps are unsuccessful in removing the stain, you can try using rubbing alcohol. Simply soak a cotton ball with the alcohol and gently dab the stain until all of the oil pastel is removed.
  • It is important to treat oil pastel stains before washing, as heat can set the stains making them harder to remove.
  • Always check the care label for individual washing instructions before attempting to remove any stain.
