Steps for Removing Oil Pastel Stains on Sweatshirts
- Start off by scraping away as much of the oil pastel from stained area as possible.
- If the oil pastel has left a greasy residue, sprinkle area with cornstarch or talcum powder and let sit for around 15 minutes.
- Gently rub the powder into the stains.
- Use a damp cloth to wipe away powder and any excess oil.
- If any stains still remain, saturate the area with a pre-wash stain remover. Allow it to sit for approximately 5 minutes before washing.
- Wash the sweatshirt on a normal cycle with warm water and your normal detergent.
- Check the sweatshirt after washing to see if there are any remaining stains. Repeat the pre-wash process and rewash if needed.
Additional Tips & Tricks
- If these steps are unsuccessful in removing the stain, you can try using rubbing alcohol. Simply soak a cotton ball with the alcohol and gently dab the stain until all of the oil pastel is removed.
- It is important to treat oil pastel stains before washing, as heat can set the stains making them harder to remove.
