Oil pastel stains can be one of the most difficult stains to get out, but it’s not impossible. Follow these steps to lift the oil pastel off of your Superga shoes and restore them to their former glory.
The first step is to gather the supplies that you’ll need: a soft cloth, a clean toothbrush, laundry detergent, white vinegar, and a shallow bowl.
The next step is to pre-treat stain. Start by gently brushing the stained area with the toothbrush. This will help to loosen any set-in stains and remove as much of the oil as possible. Next, use a small amount of liquid laundry detergent to create a paste and rub it into stain in a circular motion. Finally, soak the stained area in a bowl of cold water mixed with a tablespoon of white vinegar for 15 minutes.
Once the pre-treatment is complete, you can move on to washing the shoes. Place them in a mesh laundry bag, then run a cold water cycle in the washer machine. After the wash cycle, dry them on a flat surface in indirect sunlight.
After the shoes have dried, check to see if the stain is still there. If the stain is still visible, repeat the pre-treatment and wash cycles one more time.
After two treatments, the stain should be completely gone. To make sure shoes are completely dry, let them air-dry for 24 hours before wearing them again.
Oil pastel stains can be difficult to remove from fabric, but with this step-by-step guide you can easily get rid of the stubborn stains on your Superga shoes.
