Step 1: Pre-treat the Stain

Start by pouring some liquid detergent directly onto the stain and then lightly scrub it. Allow the detergent to sit for about five minutes until it begins to break down the oil in the pastel. Rinse off any detergent residue with cold water.

Step 2: Pretreat with Vinegar

Mix one tablespoon of white vinegar with two tablespoons of warm water. Gently dab this solution onto stain using a clean washcloth. This will help to lift stain and make it easier to remove. Once complete, rinse off the vinegar solution with cold water.

Step 3: Wash

Once you have pre-treated the stain with detergent and vinegar, you can put the shirt into the washing machine. Choose a cycle with a cold setting and put the shirt in with a mild laundry detergent. You may want to use a gentle cycle if you have a delicate shirt. After the cycle has completed, remove from the machine and check to see if the stain is still visible. If it is, repeat steps one and two before washing again.

Step 4: Air Dry

When the washing machine cycle has completed, hang the shirt to air dry. Do not put the shirt in the dryer as the heat may set the stain. If the stain persists after air drying then repeat steps one through three again.
