Oil pastels are a great medium for creating art, but cleaning up after your masterpiece is no fun. If you find yourself with an oil pastel stain on a skirt, you're not necessarily doomed - here's how to get it out.

To start, carefully use a spoon or butter knife (or something similar) to scrape away as much of the excess pastel as possible. Be sure to not press too hard - you don't want to end up pushing pastel further into fabric.
Next, pre-treat the stain with a good quality laundry or stain remover. You can use a spray bottle if you have one. Allow the stain remover to sit for 10-20 minutes before laundering.
Throw the article of clothing in the washing machine, using regular detergent and hot water. Set the washer to "normal" and turn the spin cycle to "medium."
Once you’ve washed stained clothing, examine it closely. If there is still oil/stain residue remaining, re-apply the stain remover, allow it to sit for 10-20 minutes, and then run through the washer again. Make sure to check it again after the second round of laundering before you throw it in the dryer.
