Removing Oil Pastel Stains from Silk Tussah

Step 1: Blot the Stain

As soon as possible, blot the stained area with a dry cloth or paper towel. Press down firmly so that any excess oil pastel is absorbed by the cloth instead of sinking further into the fabric.

Step 2: Pre-Treat Stain

Mix a solution of equal parts laundry detergent and warm water. Dip a clean sponge or cloth into the solution and rub it on the stained area. Let it sit for a few minutes before wiping away excess liquid.

Step 3: Use Vinegar and Water

Mix one part vinegar with four parts water and dip a clean cloth into the solution. Apply the wet cloth to stained area and let it sit for about 10 minutes. If stain is still there, repeat the process several times.

Step 4: Wash the Fabric

Rinse off the affected area with cold water and then wash the fabric as usual. If possible, air-dry the fabric instead of using a tumble dryer. This will help prevent the stain from setting permanently.

Additional Tips

  • For extra stubborn stains, mix a solution of equal parts vinegar and dish soap and apply it directly to the stain.
  • You can also use a commercial spot remover specifically designed for removing oil stains.
  • Don’t apply heat to the stained area, as this could make stain permanent.
