The first step to cleaning off oil pastel is to give the stained fabric a good wash in warm water and soap. This will help to pre-treat the stain and break up pigment. Once you've done that, dab the wet area gently with a paper towel or other absorbent material to remove any excess oils.
If soap and water isn't doing the trick, you can also try using a spot cleaning product like Spray 'n Wash or Shout. Spray or apply the cleaner directly to the stain and allow it to sit for a few minutes before blotting it gently with a paper towel. Continue to repeat this process until the stain begins to fade.
One of the best solutions to getting rid of oil pastel stains is to place fabric out in direct sunlight. The ultraviolet rays will help to break up the stains, and the heat will help to evaporate the oils and dissolve the stain. Just make sure to bring the fabric inside once you're finished, as the sun can also cause fading and discoloration.
If you're still struggling to get the stain out, you can also try using a detergent. Just mix a tablespoon of detergent with half a cup of warm water and apply the solution directly to the stained area. Allow it to sit for a few minutes and then rinse the fabric with cold water. Repeat this process until the stain has dissipated.
When all else fails, you can try using rubbing alcohol directly to the stained area. To do this, simply pour a small amount of rubbing alcohol into a bowl and dip a cotton swab into the liquid. Gently dab the swab onto the stained area, being careful not to rub or scrub it. Rinse the fabric with cold water afterwards.
