Tips for Preventing Oil Pastel Stains
- Always use a board when drawing with oil pastels. Even a thin layer of cardboard will help absorb some of the excess wax and pigment before it reaches your fabric.
- If you're going to use a sheet of paper, cover it with a cloth or another sheet of paper. This can help avoid direct contact between the oil pastel and your fabric.
- Cover your work surface with newspaper or a plastic sheet. This will make it much easier to clean up any mess.
- Avoid using direct pressure when applying oil pastel to your silk gazar fabric. Instead, lightly skim surface of your fabric with the oil pastel stick.
- Finally, always test a small area of fabric before using oil pastels on it. This will help you determine what to expect in terms of staining.
How to Remove Oil Pastel Stains from Silk Gazar
- Start by placing some paper towels on either side of the stain and blotting the area with cold water. Use only minimal pressure and avoid rubbing the fabric.
- After you’ve blotted the area, apply a small amount of dishwashing liquid to stain and gently rub it in using your fingers. This will help break down the oils and wax in the oil pastel.
- Once you’ve worked the dishwashing liquid into the stain, use a damp white cloth to blot the area. Do this until the stain is gone.
- Finally, rinse the area with cold water. Be sure to use a mild detergent if necessary, then allow the fabric to air dry.
