Things You'll Need

  • Baby shampoo or gentle detergent
  • Absorbent cloth or sponge
  • Towel

Steps to Clean the Stain

  1. Prepare a solution with baby shampoo or gentle detergent. Dip the absorbent cloth or sponge in the solution.
  2. Gently dab the stained area with the cloth or sponge, until all of oil pastel has been absorbed.
  3. Rinse the affected area with cold water. Make sure to rinse thoroughly to remove all traces of soap.
  4. Once area is rinsed, lay a small towel over it and press gently. Do not rub to avoid further damage.
  5. Dab towel with cool or lukewarm water to remove any remainder of oil.
  6. Once the area is completely dry, you can iron it on the reverse side using a low heat setting, if necessary.

Additional Tips

  • Never attempt to wash silk charmeuse in hot or warm water, as this could lead to irreversible damage.
  • If the stain is stubborn, it's best to bring the item to a professional dry cleaner, who will know just how to treat it.
