Oil pastels are notoriously difficult to clean, as they are made from highly pigmented wax. They will adhere to fabric if not cleaned up promptly and can be difficult to remove. Fortunately, following these steps, you can remove oil pastel stains from most fabrics.

What You'll Need

  • Liquid detergent
  • Stain remover
  • Scrub brush

Step 1: Pre-Treat the Stain

Mix a few drops of liquid detergent with a few drops of stain remover in a small bowl. Apply this mixture directly onto oil pastel stain. Gently work the mixture into the fabric using a scrub brush, taking care not to spread the stain further.

Step 2: Launder as Usual

Allow the pre-treatment to sit on stain for 15 minutes, then launder the garment as usual. If the stain persists, repeat the pre-treatment and laundering process.

Step 3: Air Dry Garment

Once the garment has been laundered, let it air dry and inspect it for any remaining traces of the stain. If necessary, repeat steps 1 and 2.
