What You’ll Need

  • Small, clean towels or cloths
  • Baking soda
  • Laundry detergent
  • Dishwashing liquid
  • White vinegar
  • Rubbing alcohol
  • Iron

Steps to Take

  1. Act immediately: the sooner you start treating the stain, the better chance you have of removing it.
  2. Carefully use a small, clean towel or cloth to blot away as much of the oil pastel as possible.
  3. Sprinkle baking soda over satin fabric if a greasy residue remains after blotting out the oil pastel. Allow baking soda to sit on the spot for five minutes.
  4. Mix a tablespoon of laundry detergent with a cup of cold water. Dip a clean towel or cloth into solution and use it to gently blot away any remaining stain.
  5. If the stain is still present, mix a tablespoon of dishwashing liquid with a cup of cold water and dab the area until stain has gone.
  6. If the stain persists, try a solution of two tablespoons of white vinegar and one cup of cold water. Again, use a clean cloth to dab and blot the area.
  7. As a final step, dab rubbing alcohol onto the spot and quickly press an iron set to low heat onto the fabric. Move the iron around the stain and never leave it in one place for more than five seconds.

Conclusion

Removing oil pastel stains from satin fabric doesn’t have to be a challenge. Follow these steps, and you’ll have your fabric looking fresh and clean again.
