Step 1: Pre Treatment

The first step in tackling oil pastel stains is to pre-treat the stain. Start by removing any excess oil pastel with a dull knife. Place a paper towel underneath the stain and gently pat it with a damp cloth, being careful not to rub the stain too hard.

Step 2: Soak the Stain

Once the excess oil pastel has been removed, you can begin to soak the stain. Fill a large bowl with lukewarm water and some mild detergent and submerge the stained area for about 30 minutes. After soaking, gently massage the stained area of the fabric with your fingers.

Step 3: Rinse and Launder

After massaging, rinse garment in cold water. Then add some liquid detergent directly onto the stain and let sit for another 30 minutes. Finally, launder the garment in your washing machine, but make sure to read instructions on the garment label to ensure that you set the correct temperature.

Step 4: Air Dry

Once the laundering is complete, hang the robe up to dry in an area that is free from direct sunlight. Do not put the garment in dryer, as this could set the stain further.
