If the oil pastel is dry and caked on, carefully scrape off as much of the particles as possible. Use a butter knife or similar flat-edged object to scrape the pastel loose without damaging the fabric of the parka. Avoid scrubbing too vigorously to prevent damage.
Spray pre-treatment on the stained area. Let it sit for 15-20 minutes. This will help break up oil and loosen the stain before it has to be washed.
Fill a large bowl with warm water and add a few drops of mild detergent. Place the stained area into the water and gently agitate the fabric. Let it soak for 10-15 minutes and then rinse thoroughly.
After hand washing the stained area, place the parka in the washing machine on a regular cycle. Be sure to add a liquid detergent and an oxygen-based bleach according to the manufacturer's instructions on label.
Do not put the parka in the dryer as the heat could set the stain and make it even more difficult to remove. Instead, hang the parka in a well-ventilated area and let it air dry.
Removing oil pastel stains from parkas isn't hard as long as you take proper steps. With a little patience and the right cleaning materials, you'll be able to get the stain out without damaging your garment.
