First, pre-treat the stain with a dab of dish soap. Rub it into the stained area, then give it a few minutes to settle in and break down the oils in the pastel. Once soap is absorbed into the stained area, rinse it with cold water.
Next, use a clean cloth to absorb excess color from the pastel. Dip the cloth into a glass of cold vinegar or rubbing alcohol, and gently dab at stained area. This helps to break up the oils in the pastel and lift the color away from your pants.
Finally, wash the clothes as usual on the coldest water setting your machine will allow. You may need to repeat steps 1 and 2 before washing the pants if the stain is particularly stubborn. But with a little bit of elbow grease, you should be able to get rid of the stain completely.
