After you’ve scraped off as much of the oil pastel stain as you can with the edge of a spoon or a butter knife, set the shoe aside and place a white fabric towel over the stain. This is important because the white color helps you see stain better and figure out which solvents will help loosen the greasy residue.
Once you’ve found stain, use a paper towel dampened with mineral spirits – available at any hardware store – and dab the spot. If it’s a big one, use another clean paper towel with the mineral spirits and work in circular motions until you’ve absorbed all the oil pastel stain.
After you’ve removed as much of the stain as possible with the mineral spirits, pour a few drops of rubbing alcohol onto a washcloth and apply it to the affected area. Rub it in gently. After that, use a few drops of regular laundry soap on another washcloth and dab it onto the spot as well. Work the soap into material gently, and then rinse it off with cold water.
To ensure the spot is thoroughly disinfected, mix a teaspoon of liquid bleach with two cups of cold water in a bowl. Use a separate clean cloth and dip it into the solution. Wring out the cloth and apply it to the shoe, making sure to keep the fabric evenly moist. Let the shoe dry completely before wearing them.
