Step 1: Fill a Tub with Lukewarm Water and Mild Detergent

Before you start tackling oil pastel stains, it’s important that you fill a tub with lukewarm water and add a very small amount of mild detergent. Do not use any aggressive cleaning products that could damage the delicate fibres of your macramé.

Step 2: Soak Macramé in the Tub

Once the tub is filled and the detergent is mixed in, place the items with the oil pastel stains into the tub and leave them to soak for around 15 minutes. This will give detergent time to loosen up the stubborn stains.

Step 3: Scrub the Stain Gently

Once macramé has been soaking, start gently scrubbing at the stained area. It may be necessary to use a soft-bristled brush to help get rid of tougher stains.

Step 4: Rinse the Mixture off

After you’ve scrubbed stained area, rinse item off with cold water. This will help to wash away any soapy residue.

Step 5: Allow Macramé to Air Dry

Once you’ve finished washing and rinsing the item, hang it up to air dry completely.
