Step 1: Blot the Stained Area

Using a paper towel or cloth, start by dabbing the stained area to absorb as much of the oil pastel pigment as possible. You can also use a vacuum cleaner with an upholstery attachment to help remove any loose particles of pigment.

Step 2: Pretreat the Stain

Using a damp cloth, apply a pretreatment solution — such as laundry detergent, dish soap, liquid enzyme cleaner, or a combination of these — to the stained area. Let the pretreatment sit for several minutes before proceeding to the next step.

Step 3: Wash the Leggings

Using warm water, place the leggings in the washing machine along with the pretreatment solution and other regular detergent. Set the cycle to gentle and start the machine. Allow the leggings to run through the entire cycle.

Step 4: Check for Residue

Once the cycle is complete, take the leggings out of the washing machine and check for any remaining residue from the oil pastels. If there is any pigment left behind, repeat the previous steps until the stain is gone.

Step 5: Dry the Leggings

Finally, pop the leggings into the dryer and set it to the lowest heat setting. Once the leggings are completely dry, they should be free of all oil pastel stains. Job done!
