Oil pastel stains are often seen on clothing or fabric items. Unfortunately, these types of stains can be particularly difficult to remove, as the oil in the pastels will penetrate deep into the fabric and set quickly. That’s why it’s important to clean oil pastel stains from your kimono as soon as possible.

What You Need

  • White vinegar
  • A clean, soft cloth
  • A dry cleaning solvent
  • Dish soap

Instructions

  1. Blot stain with a clean, soft cloth to remove as much oil as possible.
  2. Apply a few drops of white vinegar directly onto the stain and let sit for several minutes.
  3. Rinse the stained area with cool water and repeat vinegar application until the stain is gone.
  4. If the stain persists, apply a few drops of dry cleaning solvent and rinse immediately.
  5. If the stain remains, mix a few drops of dish soap with some warm water and apply to the area. Let sit for a few minutes and then rinse with cool water.

Tips for Preventing Future Stains

  • Always clean up any oil pastel spills as soon as possible.
  • Avoid wearing or using your kimono while using oil pastels.
  • Store your kimono away from other items that may contain oil pastels.
