Oil pastel staining on textiles is a common issue, especially when working with children. It can be difficult to remove and can vary greatly in how quickly it soaks into fabric depending on the material. But fear not! Everyone can clean their jackets and normal washable fabrics through a few simple steps.

What You'll Need to Get Started

  • Clean cloth
  • Dishwashing liquid
  • Rubbing alcohol (isopropyl alcohol)
  • White vinegar

Cleaning Steps

  1. Using a clean, dry cloth, dab away any excess oil pastel residue.
  2. Mix together equal parts dishwashing liquid and rubbing alcohol. Using a clean, damp cloth, dip the cloth into the mixture and gently scrub stain.
  3. Once the stain has been removed, soak a clean dry cloth in white vinegar and wring it out until it’s damp. Blot the area with the cloth, allow it to sit for several minutes, then wipe off with a damp cloth.
  4. Rinse the area thoroughly with cold water, then leave the fabric to air dry.

Following these steps, your jacket should be free of oil pastel stains! With just a little bit of elbow grease, you can get your jacket looking good as new in no time.
