Oil pastel is great for art projects, but it can cause a real mess if it ends up on your handbag. It's important to act fast when it comes to cleaning an oil pastel stain - the longer you wait harder it will be to remove the stain completely.

What You'll Need

  • Fine-grit sandpaper
  • Soft cloth
  • Stain remover (homemade or store-bought)

Step 1: Scrape off the Excess Stain

Use fine-grit sandpaper to gently scrape off the excess oil pastel. Take care to only remove excess stain and not any of the fabric of the handbag itself.

Step 2: Blot the Stain with a Clean Cloth

Once you’ve scraped off the excess, take a clean and soft cloth and blot thestained area. Make sure to not rub the stain, as this may lead to it spreading further across the fabric.

Step 3: Apply a Stain Remover

Next, apply a stain remover onto the stained area. If you don't have a store-bought solution, you can make a homemade one with two parts white vinegar and one part dish soap. Use a clean cloth to dab mixture onto the stained area and allow it to sit for 15 minutes before wiping it off with a damp cloth.

Step 4: Dry and Repeat as Needed

Once the stain has been removed, dry area with a clean cloth. If the stain isn’t gone completely, repeat steps 2-4 as needed.

Conclusion

Removing oil pastel stains from handbags doesn’t have to be difficult. With these four simple steps, you can restore your favorite bag to its original, stain-free condition in no time.
