Handling oil pastels can be a messy affair, especially if you're dealing with hanbok. The material is delicate and can easily be stained. But fear not, there are several methods you can use to remove oil pastel markings from hanbok.
Rubbing alcohol or isopropyl alcohol works well as it is designed to break down oils, making it effective at removing oil pastel stains. To use this method, start by blotting the stain with a damp cloth or sponge to remove any excess wax. Then pour a small amount of the alcohol onto the spot and blot gently with a cotton ball or swab. Work the stain out until it is no longer visible.
If the alcohol doesn't do the trick, try a combination of laundry detergent and ammonia. Start by mixing one tablespoon of laundry detergent with two tablespoons of ammonia in a bowl. Then soak a cloth in the solution and dab it onto the stained area. Let it sit for a few minutes before rinsing it off with cold water. Repeat this process until the stain is gone.
If the laundry detergent and ammonia solution isn't working, try using white vinegar and baking soda. First, mix one tablespoon of white vinegar with two tablespoons of baking soda in a bowl. Then apply this paste to the stained area and let it sit for 15 minutes. After that, rinse it off with cold water and repeat the process until the stain is gone.
Oil pastel stains on hanbok can be tricky to remove, but it can be done. The methods outlined above are all effective at getting rid of the markings. Just remember to be gentle and use only a small amount of cleaning solution at a time.
