Step 1: Dab Stain

Using a clean cloth, dab the oil pastel stain immediately to get as much of the pigment out as possible. This is important since any smearing could make stain more difficult to remove later.

Step 2: Apply Plain Soap and Water

Make a soapy solution by mixing a teaspoon of mild dish soap with a cup of water. Use a slightly damp cloth and dip it in soapy solution. Then, apply the soapy cloth to the stained area and massage it gently. Once entire area is covered, leave it to sit for a few minutes before rinsing the fabric with cold water.

Step 3: Wash Normally

Once the area is rinsed off, wash the garment normally according to the instructions on the labels. Make sure to turn the item inside out before you put it into the washer for extra protection against any remaining oil pastels.

Step 4: Repeat if Necessary

If the stain persists, repeat the process until the stain is gone. If the stain is still persistent after two rounds of washing, you may need to use a pre-treatment liquid such as an oxygen-based bleach specifically designed for treating tough oil pastel stains.
