Cotton poplin is a popular fabric choice for a variety of clothing items, from shirts to skirts. But because this fabric is light-weight and usually thin, it can be tricky to clean with regular methods. When dealing with oil pastel stains on cotton poplin, there are some specific steps that should be followed to ensure the best results.
The first step in cleaning an oil pastel stain on cotton poplin is to blot the affected area. Start by dampening a cloth or paper towel with cold water, then gently press it against the stained fabric in a blotting motion. Do not scrub or rub fabric, as this could cause the stain to spread.
Pretreating the stain is essential to the cleaning process. Begin by applying a gentle laundry detergent directly to stained area and letting it sit for 5 minutes. Once the pretreatment has had time to work, apply a few drops of white vinegar and allow it to soak for 15 minutes. This will help loosen up stain and make it easier to remove.
Finally, it’s time to wash the fabric. Put cotton poplin into the washing machine, making sure to keep the temperature low. Wash the fabric on a delicate cycle with a mild detergent. After the cycle is complete, air-dry the fabric and inspect the area for any remaining stains. If any traces of the stain remain, repeat steps 1 and 2 before washing again.
