Oil pastels can be a great way to add creative artistry to fabrics and clothing, like on cotton piqué, but they can leave behind difficult stains. Whether it’s a smudge from kicking a piece of furniture or a streak of color from gesturing, oil pastel stains can be tough to shift. However, with the right knowledge, you can easily clean up the mess.

Steps to Remove Oil Pastel Stains

  1. Start by scraping off as much of the oil pastel as you can with a spoon.
  2. After all the visible pastel has been scraped away, dab the area with a damp cloth to moisten the area but not saturate it.
  3. Now, apply a small amount of liquid laundry detergent on the stained area and gently massage it into the fabric in a circular motion.
  4. Leave the detergent to soak for 5 minutes.
  5. Soak fabric in lukewarm water for an additional 10 minutes and then rinse.
  6. Finally, wash and dry the fabric as normal or according to the care label.

This method should successfully remove any oil pastel stains from your clothing and fabric.

Tips and Precautions

  • It’s best to work on any stains as soon as possible, but don’t rub hard when trying to scrape off the paint as this could cause it to spread further.
  • Don’t apply too much detergent as this could damage the fabric.
  • Be certain to test any products or techniques on a small, unseen area before applying them to the stain.

With the right techniques and ingredients, you should be able to get rid of any oil pastel stains on your cotton piqué fabrics.
