Oil pastels may seem fun and whimsical when used for artwork, but it's no laughing matter when the pigment spreads to fabrics like your beloved Converse shoes. Fortunately, there are some methods you can use to clean off oil pastel stains from canvas fabric.

What You'll Need

  • Baking soda
  • White vinegar
  • Cotton cloths
  • Rubbing alcohol

Instructions

  1. Mix baking soda and white vinegar together. The consistency should be like a paste. Gently rub mixture onto the spots with the oil pastel stains.
  2. Allow the paste to sit on stained area for 15 minutes.
  3. Rinse off with cold water.
  4. Dab the area with a cotton cloth soaked in rubbing alcohol. This step helps to remove any remaining traces of the oil pastel pigment.
  5. Let air dry or gently pat dry with a towel.

Tips

  • Apply rubbing alcohol directly to the stain if it is particularly stubborn.
  • If the stain still remains, use a damp cloth and diluted detergent to scrub the area until oil pastel pigment is gone.
