Oil pastels are a vibrant and reliable medium for creating art, however, some unfortunate accidents with chinos can occur. Oil pastel stains can be stubborn to remove, but with the right cleaning technique, you can get your chinos looking brand new again.

Step 1: Scrape off as much of the oil pastel as possible

Using a dull knife, gently scrape away at any excess oil pastel from the fabric. Take care not to damage the fabric in process.

Step 2: Apply a cleaning solution

Mix some lemon juice and dish soap in a bowl and place it close to where you’ll be working. Dip a towel into the solution and begin blotting the stain with it. Ensure that no further damage is done to the fabric.

Step 3: Rinse the affected area

Blot the affected area with a damp cloth. This will help rinse away the cleaning solution. Be sure to change out solution if it starts to appear dark.

Step 4: Wash the chinos in cold water

After you have removed as much of the cleaning solution as possible, wash the chinos in cold water. To ensure that all of the cleaning solution has been completely removed, hang dry them outside.
