Step 1: Scrape Off Excess Paint

Begin by using a butter knife or spoon to scrape off any excess oil pastel paint from the fabric, being sure to remove as much of it as possible. This may take some time and effort; don’t be afraid to work at it.

Step 2: Pre-Treat the Stain

To pre-treat the stain, mix one part dish soap with two parts warm water in a bowl. Then, dip a clean cloth into solution and gently dab the stained area. Be sure not to scrub too much as it will cause the fabric to fray.

Step 3: Soak in the Solution

Allow fabric to soak in the solution for about 10 minutes so the dish soap can loosen the oil pastel paint. During this time, check to make sure the solution has thoroughly saturated the stained area.

Step 4: Rinse with Cold Water

Once the material has soaked in the solution, rinse the affected area with cold water until all soap residue is gone. Take extra care not to rub the fabric too vigorously as chiffon fabric is incredibly delicate.

Step 5: Air Dry

Finally, air dry the fabric in a well-ventilated area. Do not put the fabric in the dryer, as the heat can cause the oil pastel paint to set permanently into fabric.

We hope this guide has helped you clean oil pastel stains off your chiffon fabric. If you followed these steps correctly you should now have your chiffon fabric looking brand new!
