Step 1: Scrape off excess oil pastel

The first step to cleaning an oil pastel stain is to scrape off any excess oil pastel. You can do this by gently rubbing the area with a spoon or a butter knife. This will help ensure that you don’t accidentally spread the stain around while trying to clean it.

Step 2: Moisten the stained area

Once the excess oil pastel has been scraped away, moisten the stained area with water. You can do this by spritzing the fabric with a spray bottle filled with water or by running it under the faucet for a few seconds.

Step 3: Apply a paste of baking soda and water

Once the area is moistened, apply a paste of baking soda and water to the stain. Mix together equal parts baking soda and water until you have a thick paste. Gently rub the paste into the stained area and allow it to sit for at least 10 minutes before rinsing.

Step 4: Rinse the area with warm water

Once the baking soda paste has had time to work its magic, rinse the area with warm water. You can do this by either running the fabric under the faucet or by using a damp cloth. Make sure to rinse until all of the baking soda paste has been removed.

Step 5: Machine wash and air dry

Once area has been cleaned, launder item as instructed on the care label. Do not put it into the dryer--instead, air dry the item so that stain does not set in further. Repeat these steps as needed until the stain has been completely removed.
