What You'll Need

  • Dish soap
  • Laundry detergent
  • White vinegar
  • An old toothbrush
  • A hard-bristle brush
  • A bowl
  • A non-abrasive sponge

Step 1: Spot Treatment

Begin by creating a mixture of dish soap and laundry detergent and white vinegar in equal parts in a bowl. Dip an old toothbrush into the solution and gently scrub the stain until you’ve saturated the area with the cleaning solution. Allow the solution to sit for at least 10 minutes before rinsing with cold water.

Step 2: Rinse, Repeat

Once the spot treatment is done, rinse the lace thoroughly under cold running water. Make sure to rinse until all of soap and detergent is gone. If the stain isn’t completely gone or if there are still traces left after you’ve rinsed, repeat Steps 1 and 2.

Step 3: Gently Brush Away Stubborn Spots

If stain still persists, you may need to use a hard-bristle brush, non-abrasive sponge, or a combination of the two to help remove any stubborn residue. Be careful not to damage lace, though – press lightly and work slowly in circular motions.

Step 4: Finishing Touches

Once all the stains have been removed, hang your lace in the sun for a few hours. This will help brighten its color and add shine. Afterward, let the lace air dry. Your Chantilly lace should now look as good as new!
