If the stain is still fresh, start by blotting the area with a piece of clean cloth to remove as much of the oil pastel as possible. Do not use detergents or other cleaning solutions during this step.
Prepare a solution containing 1 teaspoon of liquid dishwashing detergent and 1 cup of warm water. Using a soft brush, gently scrub the stain with detergent solution and pat dry with a clean cloth. Allow the pre-treated area to air dry.
Wash the stained chambray fabric with a quality laundry detergent in warm water. For best results, use a quality stain remover such as Oxi-Clean or a similar product.
Air dry the garment or tumble dry on a low heat setting. Do not use high heat as this may cause the stain to set permanently.
